Fanfare for Queen Victoria
Composed for the arrival of Her Majesty the Queen at Westminster Abbey

This short fanfare was first performed on June 21, 1887 to announce the arrival of Her Majesty the Quuen at Westminster Abbey on the occasion of the Thanksgiving Service for her year of Jubilee. The instruments used at the royal occasion were from the collection of the Queen at St. James' Place. They were made of silver with slides pitched in D. These royal slide trumpets had been similarly sounded fifty years earlier on teh 20th of the same month, to announce the Queen's Accessenion to the throne. The composer, Thomas Harper, was a famous player on the slide trumpet.
