Gottfried Reiche was named cheif "Stadtmusicus" in 1719 in the German town of Leipzig. J.S. Bach composed many of his famous trumpet parts for Reiche. The Fanfare "Abblasen" is seen in a painting of Reiche by
E.G. Haussmann. The painting was commissioned on the occasion of Reiche's 60th birthday. Legend has it that Reiche died of a stroke in 1734 as he was walking home from a performance of Bach's Brandenberg
Concerto No. 3.
